Nursing Home Shepherd

Dedicated to Pastor, Roger Day (who we have watched "walk" this poem) and to all those who minister (either officially or unofficially) at nursing homes.

Nursing Home Shepherd

The Savior came and stood by you as you spoke His Words.
He opened the ears that the world said could no longer hear, and He made sure they heard.

As you reached out and held the hands that used to reach out to Him in prayer,
They could feel His touch and knew their Lord would always care.

As you knelt beside them, the smile that lit your eyes,
Came directly from the throne room and gave their hearts a
little more life.
Did you hear the Savior say to you "This one used to praise My name."?
And though now you couldn't understand what she said -- you smiled and listened -- and the Lord heard your heart cry "Jesus, I do this in Your name!"

The nurse called you in the middle of the night,
To set at a bedside; to ease the sorrow and fright.
And the Savior was there -- His Glory came -- as He welcomed home His child -- who had just accepted Salvation in His name.

You never grow weary of well doing, for you seem to understand
That these precious ones too are His sheep.
And He's a God Who's righteous, faithful and true;
and to you, His Word will He forever keep.

As you give your time along with hugs too,
May you feel His arm around your shoulder too.

For as you've given, so shall you receive.
For it's the Master Who speaks to you now you see
And says "As you've done to these -- so have you done to Me."
